Why you should moisturise

Stay hydrated

Of the myriad skincare products available, none stand as important as a moisturiser, forming the proverbial bread and butter, if you will, of your routine. We exact from our moisturiser a well hydrated veneer and seemingly little else. Not garnering the short-term benefits of a good exfoliation or the immediate improvement a spritz of cologne may engender, moisturising has a habit of becoming a burden akin to brushing one’s teeth, or a missed chore altogether!

Like any good investment, time and diligence make a good moisturisers benefits known and trust us when we say these dividends will be paying off for years to come.

WHY MOISTURISE?

No matter your skin type, a daily moisturise is essential for maintaining skin health. A parched dermis makes for blotchy, uneven skin and a higher likelihood of breakouts. That goes doble for the more oil prone among us. The reason for this being a moisturiser will help maintain healthy sebum production in the skin, keeping you relatively oil free throughout the day. A moisturiser, then, becomes a sort of mediator between extremes, keeping your skin balanced and healthy and blemish free.

Moisturising is also handy for lessening the appearance of blemishes, especially if it contains actives used to soothe the skin.

As we mentioned above a moisturiser is an investment, both in time and effort. The best preventative measure we can take for ensuring youthful, healthy skin is to start as soon as you can and never skip a day. Easier said than done? Absolutely. Worth it? You bet.

When to moisturise

Key to the efficiency of your moisturiser is in your timing. Generally speaking, the best time to apply is straight after your shower to replenish the moisture and oil stripped in the deluge.

It bears repeating here that a moisturiser is the last step in your skincare routine before an SPF, so make sure you get to work post haste.

which moisturiser is right for me?

For those on the slicker side, a lighter oil free formulation will do the trick. A moisturiser weighed down with oils and minerals can clog the pores and lead to further oil build up and acne. Inversely, for those with a dryer complexion, a richer, denser cream able to penetrate deep into the dermis is the way to go.

In any case, look for a moisturiser with an SPF to give your skin an added layer of protection.
