We’ve all been there at one time or another. Excitedly toting home a new product promised to engender fresh, glowing skin and next thing you know you’re breaking out. Skincare purging is a common phenomenon that occurs when you try a new product or begin using skincare after a self care sabbatical.
Skincare purging is most prominently brought on by the introduction of an exfoliant or renewing active like vitamin a or salicylic acid as it brings to the surface all the gunk lying in wait just below the surface. It can be frustrating and discouraging, but it's important to understand that it's a natural part of the skin's renewal process.
